Welcome to The Mae Garden
The Mae Garden, located at Threads of Time Creative Sewing and Retreat Center, is a tribute to Shirley Mae Murray, Bill Gouty’s mother. All her life, she loved flowers. She collected seeds. She cultivated plants. She appreciated the uniqueness of different trees and bushes. Any African violet she touched flourished and exhibited breathtaking displays of purple, white, and pink nestled among rich, velvety leaves of green. Shirley’s love of gardening was passed to her son, Bill, who not only loves all kinds of trees, bushes, plants, and flowers, but who enjoys rocks. Bill’s rocks can be seen scattered throughout the garden, but most notably in the bubbling natural rock fountain that sits next to the covered gazebo.
Bill decided to create the garden as a living memorial to the mother who faced trials during her life and successfully raised three children on her own after their dad was killed in a car accident when Bill was 13. All the Gouty siblings, Julie from Georgia and Gary from Florida, have also helped create this refuge while here caring for their mom. A perfect spot for the retreaters from Threads and Beds Retreat , Mae’s Garden is a restful, beautiful spot that will bring you pleasure and wonderful memories , as it does us.
